Baseball, Statistics, and the Role of Chance in the Game

About the Instructor, Jim Albert

Jim Albert received a BS degree in mathematics from Bucknell University in 1975 and a PhD in Statistics from Purdue University in 1979. He has taught at Bowling Green State University since 1979 and is currently a Professor of Mathematics and Statistics.

He has published over 60 papers in Bayesian inference, statistics education, and the application of statistics to sports. He is a Fellow of the American Statistician Association and has been editor of The American Statistician.

He is the coauthor (with Jay Bennett) of Curve Ball: Baseball, Statistics, and the Role of Chance in the Game and author of Teaching Statistics Using Baseball. Curve Ball has been favorably reviewed in many publications and received the Sporting News-SABR Research award.
