The University of Mount Union

The Writing Center provides a number of services to the Mount Union community. Staffed by undergraduate peer tutors, the Writing Center provides scheduled tutoring on a one-to-one basis, primarily for undergraduate students.

Tutors are trained to work with diverse disciplines and can help in every stage of the writing process from generating topics to final editing. This facility and its staff work to help writers better understand their writing processes and develop useful writing skills. A selection of reference materials are available for use in the Writing Center, as well as computers available for word processing, Internet access, on-line research, and other academic purposes. The Writing Center is a user-friendly facility available to writers of all skill levels, interests, and disciplines. Writing Center Tutors are not the “grammar police”; they are here to help.

The Writing Center can help undergraduate student writers in any stage of the writing process, anywhere from thinking about an assignment to editing and proofreading a paper. Writing tutors are experienced academic writers from widely varied disciplines and majors, so they can help with creating research papers, writing lab reports, preparing for essay exams, revising resumes and cover letters, and most other writing tasks. Writing Center tutors are trained to help students improve their written work; more importantly, tutors are trained to enable students' better understanding of the writing process, of writing at the college level, and of their individual strengths and needs as writers.

Assistance for graduate students in the Physician Assistance program is provided by faculty in that program. PA students are welcomed to use the WC, but note that we are an undergraduate support program. See the resources link at left for the PA Program.
