MAA Ohio Section Student Papers Award Winners

Note: The MAA Ohio Section Student Papers Awards are no longer being presented.

The Annual MAA-Ohio Section Student Paper Contest began in 1995. Mathematics students from all Ohio colleges and universities are eligible to submit papers. Judging is based on correct mathematics, grammar, and syntax, as well as on the elegance of the mathematics and the writing. Prizes totaling at least $150 are awarded to the top three papers. Winners are announced and the prizes awarded at the Spring meeting of the MAA Ohio section.

1999

• 1st prize: Miracle Conrad, Gibb's Phenomena, Mount Union College.
• 3rd prize: Cara Grisola, Golden Rectangle, Mount Union College.

1997

• 2nd prize (tie): Dan McWhorter, A Presentation of Hyperbolic Geometry Through the Klein-Beltrami and Poincare Disc Models, Mount Union College.

1996

• 1st prize: Kristen Haidet, Platonic Solids, Mount Union College.
• 2nd prize: Mindy Holl, Tiling Theory, Mount Union College.
• Honorable Mention: David Sparks, The Circle Theorems, Mount Union College

• 1st prize: David Hudson, Non-Euclidean Geometry, Mount Union College.
