World Languages and Cultures

Welcome to the Department of World Languages and Cultures!

In this ever changing global world, knowledge of other languages has become a critical skill. The Department of World Languages and Cultures offers programs in five languages that are designed to deepen the students' ability to thrive in this international environment.

We offer Bachelor of Arts degrees in French, German, Japanese, and Spanish, as well as a minor in Chinese. Arabic is a special offering taught by a Fulbright instructor. Students who major in French, German, Japanese, and Spanish may complete a K-12 Teaching Licensure. A minimum of six credits in a department approved study abroad program is required for majors.

Our engaged and caring faculty members teach a balanced variety of courses in language, culture, business, and literature. Emphasis is placed on the use of language in classrooms equipped with state-of-the-art multimedia technology, enhanced by community-based service learning projects, language clubs, and cine-clubs.

The Department of World Languages and Cultures is proud to welcome five teaching assistants, native speakers of Chinese, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish through USAC (University Study Abroad Consortium) each year. This is a unique feature of the University of Mount Union language program.

Our graduates have enjoyed increasing success in gaining acceptance into graduate programs, teaching positions, significant internships, and meaningful careers in major corporations.
