The
Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry seeks to contribute to the achievement
of the general objectives of the University by providing a well-balanced program
of studies. Courses are offered to satisfy the needs of students with a casual
interest in chemistry, those requiring a supporting program to their major, or
those desiring a major which provides a strong background of knowledge in the
field of chemistry. Majors are prepared for advanced study in graduate or
professional school or for careers in chemistry. Instruction in the department
places emphasis on the use of modern scientific instruments, a library of books
and journals in chemistry, and the ability of the student to do independent
work.
Two major courses of study are offered - Chemistry and Biochemistry - as well as a Chemistry
