Chemistry Major

Today employment opportunities are especially strong in the fields of environmental analysis, material science, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medicine, allied health, and secondary education. Mount Union chemistry majors are well prepared to enter any of these areas as well as graduate school. Students make minor adjustments in their academic program to align with their chosen career path.

A total of 36 semester hours are required in the area of chemistry, plus extra-departmental courses in math and physics. The completion of your degree is rounded out by ca. 50 semester hours in general education requirements. As with any major at Mount Union College, Chemistry majors are required to complete a Senior Culminating Experience (SCE). This project allows students to gain valuable research experience working independently in the laboratory, but in cooperation with a faculty mentor. Students are required to present their work in a seminar, a formal paper, and a poster
to be displayed in the department.
