Constitution of Student Activities Council

Mount Union College

 

Article I

Name

The name of this organization shall be Student Activities Council (SAC) of Mount Union College.

 

Article II

Purpose

The Student Activities Council of Mount Union College is an organization that is focused on providing recreational, social, cultural, educational, and traditional entertainment to the entire Mount Union community. This council helps create an opportunity for enhancement in leadership, friendship, and improving campus unity.

 

Article III

Membership

 

Section I

The membership of SAC shall be composed of the executive board and active committee members.

 

Section II

  1. Minimum qualifications for being an active member:
    1. Must attend one SAC Meeting and one event per month.

 

  1. Minimum qualifications for being an active member in good standing:
    1. Must attend three SAC Meetings and three events per month.

 

 

Article IV

Advisor

 

Section 1

The advisor shall be a member of the faculty or administration of Mount Union

College and shall be recommended annually by the members of this organization in a manner agreeable to a majority of the total membership. 

 

Section 2

This recommendation shall be forwarded to the President of the College who shall then in turn appoint the Advisor.

 

Section 3

The advisor will be the Director of Student Involvement and Leadership or an individual appointed by the Director of Student Involvement and Leadership.

 

Article V

Application and Election Process

 

Section I

New executive officers shall be elected at the second full body meeting after Spring Break, Second Semester.

 

Section II

  1. Executive Officers
    1. The new executive officers shall be elected by the active members in SAC. Individuals wishing to be considered for executive offices shall meet the qualifications of membership and complete an executive officer application.

 

  1. Voting
    1. Individuals who meet requirements of active SAC membership in good standing. shall be the only people allowed to vote.

 

Section III

The following guidelines shall be used for the purpose of filling vacancies (whether due to resignation, failure to fulfill responsibilities of the position, failure to return to Mount Union College, or failure to abide by the Mount Union handbook.)

 

  1. Executive Officer
    1. Applications shall be accepted first from those among the current Board. The office then shall be filled by an election from these applicants by a vote of the active members in good standing. If no applications are produced from the current Board, then the elections shall be opened to the Student Activities Council active members.

 

Article VI

Executive Board

 

Section I

Qualifications

 

  1. Minimum qualifications for serving on the Executive Council of SAC are:
    1. Maintain good academic standing with Mount Union College and achieve a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.
    2. Serve at least one semester as an active member in good standing of SAC. In the case that there are fewer than two qualified applicants at the time of elections, no prior service shall be required.

 

Section II

Positions

 

The SAC executive board will consist of the following positions:

-Vice President

-Secretary

-Treasurer

-Major Music Chair

-Coffeehouse Artist Chair

-Comedy Chair

-Interactive Chair

-Big Screen Chair

-Web Master

 

Section III

President

 

*Presiding officer of SAC.

*Ex-officio voting member of all SAC committees.

*Shall appoint chairpersons of special committees and shall have authority to dissolve special committees upon completion of their assignment.

*Serve as the official representative of SAC at activity fairs and other functions.

*Shall meet weekly with the SAC advisor.

*The president reserves the right to call a special meeting when deemed appropriate.

 

Section IV

Vice President

 

*Shall preside in the absence of the president.

*Shall be SAC’s representative to Student Senate.

*Shall be the SAC historian.

*Shall oversee Homecoming week and the activities included therein.

 

Section V

Secretary

 

*Shall keep a notebook of minutes of all meetings.

*Shall be responsible for all SAC correspondence as well as all meeting notifications.

*Shall keep attendance records and maintain current SAC roster.

*Shall notify members of their current standing.

 

Section VI

Treasurer

 

*Shall keep current and accurate financial records for SAC and report the financial condition at SAC meetings.

*Shall work closely with the Student Senate treasurer to process check requests and monitor the SAC budget.

*Shall work with the president and advisor to construct a budget for the standing committees consistent with the financial guidelines determined by Student Senate.

*Shall educate standing committee chairpersons on financial procedures and monitor their committee budget.

 

Section VII

Committee Chairpersons

 

*Committee chairpersons shall be part of the SAC Executive Board.

*Chairpersons include Major Music, Coffeehouse Artists, Comedy, Interactive, and Big Screen.

*Each committee member shall receive a notebook containing the SAC constitution and a schedule of events.

*Each committee chair will be responsible for adding to the notebook and keeping it current to pass on to their successor.

 

Article VII

Committees

 

 

Section I

Committees

 

  1. The following standing committees shall exist:
    1. Major Music
    2. Coffeehouse Artists
    3. Comedy
    4. Interactive
    5. Big Screen

 

 

Section II

All committees shall operate under the following guidelines:

  1. Committees shall operate under the SAC budget and shall be responsible for selecting or developing professional entertainment to perform at Mount Union College.
  2. All legal contractual and financial arrangements in connection with each committee shall be the responsibility of each chairperson and completed under the authority, signature and prior approval of the advisor.
  3. Committees shall be responsible for producing and distributing publicity no less than two weeks prior to the event.
  4. All responsibilities will be overseen and distributed by the committee chairperson.

 

Section III

Specific Committee Responsibilities

 

  1. Major Music
    1. Shall be responsible for coordinating musical performances consisting of more than one artist and any other event at the discretion of the board. Every other committee has it…
  2. Coffeehouse Artists
    1. Shall be responsible for solo performers such as poetry readings, speakers, solo musical performers, mentalists and any other event at the discretion of the board. 
  3. Comedy
    1. Shall be responsible for all comedic acts and any other event at the discretion of the board.
  4. Interactive
    1. Shall be responsible for events such as Inflatables, Wax Hands, Bowling, Mechanical Bulls, Battle of the Bands, Game Shows and any other event at the discretion of the board.
  5. Big Screen
    1. Shall be responsible for all Drive In Movies, Walk In Movies, Films, productions that occur on screen and any other event at the discretion of the board.

 

Article VIII

Attendance

 

Section I

Executive Board

 

  1. The executive board shall meet every week during the regular academic year. Attendance at all meetings and events is required unless prior approval is granted by the president.
  2. Board members are permitted two excused absences and one unexcused absence per semester. Any other absences must be excuses prior to the meeting and/or event by the president or advisor.
  3. When a committee chairperson is absent, an informed committee member must take their place at the meeting.
  4. After two unexcused absences, the secretary will send a warning letter to the Board member.
  5. A minimum of 2 office hours per week are required of each Board member.

 

Article IX

Consequences Disciplinary Action

 

  1. When the behavior of an active member of SAC comes into question, a special meeting will be called, consisting of the advisor, the executive board and the party in question.
    1. The actions taken will be at the discretion of the executive board as approved by the advisor.

 

Article X

Amendment

 

Section 1

In order to amend the constitution, a written notice of the proposed amendment shall be circulated to the membership at least two weeks prior to the meeting at which the amendment will be voted upon. 

Section 2

The amendment to the constitution shall be adopted by a two-thirds vote of the members present at this meeting. 

Section 3

Amendments will become effective upon approval by the Committee on Campus Life.

 

Article XI

Ratification

 

This constitution shall be in effect upon ratification by two-thirds of the SAC Executive Board present at the ratification sessions, and by the approval of the Campus Life Committee.

 

Article XII

Adherence to Rules and Regulations

 

This organization shall adhere to the Mount Union College Student Handbook and all other rules and regulations governing Mount Union College, its organizations and its students.

 

Article XII

Student Involvement and Leadership Clause (added per college policy)

The Student Activities Council shall maintain a current registration form on file with the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership including a list of officers, their addresses and phone numbers, the name of the Advisor, and the most recently amended constitution.
